Heat capacity method
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006189
A way of finding soil heat flux by tracking the change in heat content of a soil layer between two times. The heat content comes from measured soil temperature profiles multiplied by the volumetric heat capacity, which depends on soil water content, and adding this storage term to the flux measured at depth gives the flux at the surface. It is also called the caloric method and is an alternative to flux plates.
