1. The sum of all the measurements in a data set divided by the number of measurements in the data set.

2. A number equal to the average value of a population or sample. Usually obtained by summing all the values in the sample and dividing by the number of values (i.e., sample size).

3. Algebraic sum of data values divided by the number of data values (e.g., the sum of the concentration of lead in several soil samples divided by the number of samples).

4. The sum of all the measurements in a data set divided by the number of measurements in the data set. [EPA 1992]

5. A measure of central tendency. It is computed by adding all the individual values together and dividing by the number in the group. [Last 1983]

6. The sum of numbers divided by the number of numbers. (NZ 2002)

7. Average of a list of numbers that is calculated by adding all the numbers and then dividing by the total number of items in the list.
