Median

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-016872

1. A measure of central tendency, the value of the case marking the midpoint of an ordered list of values of all cases; a statistic used primarily with ordinal variables and asymmetrically distributed interval-ratio variables.

2. The midpoint value obtained by ranking all values from highest to lowest and choosing the value in the middle. The median divides a population into two equal halves. (NIAID 2000)

3. The middle number or center value of a set of data in which all the data are arranged in sequence. {ORD} {OW/EAD} {OPP} {OW/TSC} {OAR/OAQPS} {OECA} {ORCR}

4. The middle value in a population distribution, above and below which lie an equal number of individual values; midpoint. (CARB 2000)

5. A measure of central tendency. The simplest division of a set of measurements is into two parts - the lower and the upper half. The point on the scale that divides the group in this way is called the "median." (Last 1983)

6. The middle value of n numbers (if n is even it is the arithmetic mean of the middle two numbers). (NZ 2002)

7. Middle value of a set of ordered values (i.e., half the numbers are less than or equal to the median value). A median is the 50th percentile of the data.

8. The middle number or center value of a set of data in which all the data are arranged in sequence.

9. The middle value of a set of ordered values (i.e., half the numbers are less than or equal to the median value). A median is the 50th percentile of the data.
