Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-016788

1. A measure of central tendency, the arithmetic average; a statistic used primarily with interval-ratio variables following symmetrical distributions.

2. The sum of all data values divided by the number of samples. The mean is strongly influenced by "outlier" samples (extremely high or low samples), with one outlier sample possibly shifting the mean significantly higher or lower.

3. Mean, arithmetic: The sum of numbers divided by the number of numbers. (NZ 2002)

4. Average of a list of numbers that is calculated by adding all the numbers and then dividing by the total number of items in thelist.
