Gustiness components

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006134

The individual elements that describe the turbulent, fluctuating nature of wind, typically resolved into three orthogonal directions: longitudinal (along the mean wind), lateral (across the mean wind), and vertical. These components quantify the intensity and characteristics of wind gusts. They are measured using instruments like sonic anemometers to understand atmospheric boundary layer dynamics.
