Dichroism
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004973
The property of an optical material that exhibits different absorption coefficients for light polarized in different directions. In atmospheric optics, this can refer to how certain atmospheric particles or crystals interact with polarized light, leading to variations in scattered or transmitted light intensity depending on the polarization state. This phenomenon is sometimes observed in ice crystals or aerosols.
