Molar activity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007467

  1. The total activity of a specific radionuclide divided by the total number of moles of the substance containing it. This quantity provides a measure of the concentration of a radioactive isotope within a given element or compound, relating its radioactivity to its chemical amount. The standard SI unit for molar activity is the becquerel per mole (Bq/mol), although the non-SI unit of curie per mole (Ci/mol) is also used.

  2. (material) The activity of a radionuclide within a material, divided by the amount of substance (in moles) of that material. This value quantifies the radioactivity associated with a molar quantity of a specific substance, which may contain the radionuclide. It is expressed in becquerels per mole (Bq/mol).
