Vibrational relaxation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012567
The process by which a molecule in an excited vibrational state loses its excess vibrational energy, typically through collisions with other molecules or by converting it into rotational or translational energy. This leads to the molecule returning to a lower vibrational energy level. It is a non-radiative decay pathway.
