Vibrational redistribution
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012566
The process by which vibrational energy initially localized in one mode of a molecule spreads to other vibrational modes within the same molecule. This intramolecular energy transfer occurs rapidly, especially in larger molecules. It is a key step in many chemical reactions and photophysical processes.
