Total mobile phase volume
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012140
The retention volume, in size-exclusion chromatography, of a sample component whose molecules are small enough to enter every pore of the packing particles, so that it samples all of the mobile phase in the column. It equals the total mobile phase time multiplied by the column flow rate, Vt = tt x Fc. It is the sum of the interparticle and intraparticle volumes, and larger molecules elute earlier, between V0 and Vt.
