Reduced mobile phase velocity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010045
A dimensionless parameter in chromatography that normalizes the mobile phase velocity by the diffusion coefficient of the analyte and the particle diameter of the stationary phase. This value allows for comparison of chromatographic column performance independent of the specific mobile phase or column dimensions. It is a key factor in the van Deemter equation, which describes band broadening in chromatography.
