Calibration

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001574

Operations that, under stated conditions, relate the values indicated by a measuring instrument or system, or represented by a material measure or a reference material, to the corresponding known values of a measurand. It is distinct from adjustment of the instrument, which is a separate operation that may follow it. Calibration uses reference materials traceable to national or international standards.
