Desynapsis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003076
The premature separation of homologous chromosomes after they have successfully paired during the pachytene stage of meiotic prophase. This failure to maintain association until anaphase I can lead to the formation of univalents instead of bivalents. Such an event results in abnormal chromosome segregation and the production of aneuploid gametes, which have an incorrect number of chromosomes.
