Stereoelectronic control
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011373
The influence exerted by the spatial arrangement of electron orbitals and groups within a molecule on the course and outcome of a chemical reaction. This control arises from the requirement for specific orbital alignments for effective overlap during bond formation or cleavage. It dictates the preferred conformation or reaction pathway by favoring interactions that stabilize transition states or intermediates.
