Chiral recognition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002003
The process by which a chiral molecule or agent selectively interacts with one enantiomer of a chiral substrate over the other. This discrimination is based on the formation of transient diastereomeric complexes that have different energies and stabilities. Chiral recognition is the fundamental principle behind enantioselective synthesis, the chromatographic separation of enantiomers, and the specific action of many enzymes and drug receptors.
