1. A substance added in small quantity to another substance, generally conferring some added benefit.
2. Chemical substance that is intentionally added to another chemical substance to improve its stability or impart some other desirable quality.
3. Material that is added to a coating after purchase from a supplier (e.g., catalysts, activators, accelerators).
4. Any substance, other than one composed solely of carbon and/or hydrogen, that is intentionally added to a fuel named in the designation (including any added to a motor vehicle's fuel system) and that is not intentionally removed prior to sale or use.
