Subtractive name

A name built from a parent structure plus an affix showing that atoms or groups have been taken away, with hydrogen filling the gap where needed. The prefixes nor-, deoxy-, dehydro- and anhydro- are typical examples. Deoxyribose, for instance, is named as ribose lacking one oxygen atom, and norbornane as bornane lacking its three methyl groups.
