Subunit
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011537
A building block of a constitutional repeating unit: the biggest piece of its backbone that organic nomenclature can name with one name. It may be a ring or ring system, a single heteroatom or a run of heteroatoms, or an acyclic carbon chain. The unit -O-C6H4- in poly(oxy-1,4-phenylene) contains two subunits, oxy and 1,4-phenylene.
