Succession
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011538
The progressive and somewhat predictable process of change in the species composition of an ecological community over time following a disturbance or the creation of new habitat. This dynamic process involves colonization by pioneer species, followed by their replacement by other species, leading towards a more stable climax community. It can be primary, occurring on newly formed land, or secondary, occurring after a disturbance in an existing community.
