Heterotrophic succession

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005274

A type of ecological succession that occurs in an environment rich in organic matter, where the initial colonizers are primarily heterotrophic organisms. These organisms break down the available organic material, leading to changes in the environment that favor subsequent communities. This process is observed in decaying logs or compost piles, where bacteria and fungi dominate early stages.
