Autotrophic succession
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001011
The ecological process of community change over time, where the dominant organisms are autotrophs, meaning they produce their own food. This type of succession begins with pioneer species that colonize a barren area, gradually modifying the environment to allow for the establishment of more complex autotrophic communities. It leads to an increase in biomass and biodiversity over many years.
