Senior constitutional repeating unit
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010740
The constitutional repeating unit chosen from two or more alternatives according to a hierarchical set of IUPAC nomenclature rules. When naming an irregular polymer, the units are ranked based on criteria such as the presence of heterocycles, heteroatoms in the main chain, and the complexity of substituents. The unit with the highest seniority is cited first in the polymer's name, providing a consistent basis for structural representation.
