Subthalamus

A small region of the diencephalon, located ventral to the thalamus and medial to the internal capsule. It contains the subthalamic nucleus, which is a component of the basal ganglia circuit. This nucleus is a common target for deep brain stimulation in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
