Functional class name
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004709
A name built by writing the class of the compound, such as alcohol, halide or ketone, as its own word following the parent or substituent name, as in ethyl alcohol, methyl chloride and diethyl ketone. When the preceding part is a substituent group the method is called radicofunctional nomenclature. It contrasts with substitutive nomenclature, which gives ethanol, chloromethane and pentan-3-one for the same compounds.
