Functional domain

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004710

A distinct region within a protein or a larger biological molecule that has a specific biochemical or biophysical activity, often capable of folding independently. These domains contribute to the overall function of the molecule, such as binding to other molecules, catalyzing reactions, or regulating gene expression. Examples include DNA-binding domains and catalytic domains in enzymes.
