Fold domain

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004561

A region of a chain-folded polymer crystal within which all fold planes share one orientation. The growth sectors of a lamellar crystal are the usual examples, and neighbouring sectors differ in the direction along which the chains fold. In solution-grown polyethylene crystals, the {110} sectors are separate fold domains.
