Fold plane
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004563
A crystallographic plane of a chain-folded polymer crystal that contains many stems linked to one another by folds, so it runs along the chain axis and roughly perpendicular to the lamellar faces. In solution-grown polyethylene crystals the {110} planes are the best-known fold planes. The fold surface is a different thing: it is the lamellar face lying tangential to the folds themselves.
