Catalytic domain of a polypeptide
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001723
A specific region within a polypeptide chain that is responsible for its enzymatic activity, containing the active site where substrate binding and chemical transformation occur. This domain often exhibits a characteristic three-dimensional structure that facilitates catalysis. The catalytic domain can function independently or in conjunction with other regulatory or binding domains within the same protein.
