Skeletal formula
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010926
A simplified representation of an organic molecule that shows the carbon skeleton and functional groups, omitting explicit carbon and hydrogen atoms attached to carbon. Carbon atoms are implied at the vertices and ends of lines, and hydrogen atoms attached to carbon are also implied to satisfy valency. This notation is widely used in organic chemistry to quickly convey molecular structure.
