Intermolecular interactions
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013205
The set of attractive or repulsive forces that occur between neighboring molecules, ions, or other chemical entities. These forces, such as van der Waals forces and hydrogen bonds, are significantly weaker than the intramolecular forces (covalent bonds) that hold atoms together within a molecule. The strength of these interactions determines many of the bulk physical properties of a substance, including its boiling point, melting point, and solubility.
