Intermolecular chain transfer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005959
Chain transfer in which the active center on one macromolecule is passed to a different macromolecule, by abstraction of an atom or group from its backbone. It leaves a dead chain and a new active site in the middle of the receiving chain, which then grows a branch, as in the long-chain branching of radically made low-density polyethylene. Intramolecular transfer, or backbiting, happens within a single chain instead.
