Single-strand macromolecule
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010901
A macromolecule whose constitutional units are joined to their neighbours through a single pair of atoms, one on each unit, so the backbone forms one continuous strand rather than a ladder. Typical examples are polyethylene, polystyrene and a single polynucleotide chain. A ladder polymer, whose adjacent units are joined through four atoms, is a double-strand macromolecule instead.
