Transannular strain
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012198
The repulsive interaction between atoms or groups that are not directly bonded but are located across a ring, typically in medium-sized or large cyclic compounds. This strain arises from nonbonded interactions, such as van der Waals repulsions, that occur when atoms are forced into close proximity due to the ring's geometry. It contributes to the overall strain energy of the cyclic system.
