Crud

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002740

A solid or semi-solid material that forms at the interface between two immiscible liquid phases during a solvent extraction process. This interfacial precipitate can consist of fine solid particles, denatured organic matter, or other insoluble substances that accumulate at the phase boundary. The presence of crud complicates phase separation, can stabilize emulsions, and may lead to loss of the desired solute.
