Tablet coating
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011791
A thin layer of material applied to the surface of a solid dosage form, such as a pill or tablet. The coating serves to mask unpleasant tastes or odors, protect the active pharmaceutical ingredient from degradation by light or moisture, and ease swallowing. An enteric coating is a specific polymer barrier applied to prevent dissolution in the acidic environment of the stomach, delaying drug release until the tablet reaches the small intestine.
