Buccal tablet
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001524
A solid dosage form designed to dissolve slowly when placed in the buccal pouch, between the cheek and gums. The active pharmaceutical ingredient is absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the buccal mucosa, bypassing first-pass metabolism in the liver. This route is suitable for drugs that are poorly absorbed orally or are subject to extensive hepatic metabolism.
