Effervescent tablet
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003601
A solid pharmaceutical dosage form, containing a mixture of an acid and a carbonate or bicarbonate salt, designed to be dissolved in water before administration. When placed in water, the tablet reacts to produce carbon dioxide gas, causing it to fizz and disintegrate, which disperses the active pharmaceutical ingredient into the solution. Unlike conventional tablets that are swallowed whole, effervescent tablets are completely dissolved before the patient ingests the liquid.
