Coating

A layer of material applied to the surface of a pharmaceutical dosage form, such as a tablet or capsule, to achieve specific functional or aesthetic properties. This layer can protect the active pharmaceutical ingredient from degradation, mask an unpleasant taste, or control the release rate of the drug. Common coating materials include polymers, sugars, and waxes.
