Diffusion current

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003195

The component of electric current in an electrochemical cell that arises from the net movement of electroactive species towards or away from an electrode surface due to a concentration gradient. This current is governed by Fick's laws of diffusion and is observed when migration and convection are minimized. It is a limiting current in many voltammetric techniques.
