Neurite
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007860
Any projection extending from the cell body of a neuron. During development, a neurite is an undifferentiated process that will later mature into either an axon, which transmits signals, or a dendrite, which receives them. The term is most frequently used in the context of cell culture or developmental neurobiology before the axon and dendrites are morphologically distinct.
