Pyramidal cell
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009693
A type of multipolar neuron with a pyramid-shaped cell body, a single long axon, and multiple dendrites. These neurons are the primary excitatory cells in brain regions such as the cerebral cortex and hippocampus, where they participate in higher cognitive functions. The structure and function of pyramidal cells can be altered by exposure to neurotoxicants, leading to deficits in learning and memory.
