Pyramidal inversion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009694
A dynamic process where a trigonal pyramidal molecule or a chiral center with a lone pair rapidly interconverts between two enantiomeric forms. This inversion occurs through a planar transition state, effectively flipping the pyramid. Nitrogen atoms in amines often undergo rapid pyramidal inversion at room temperature.
