Walden inversion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012633

A stereochemical inversion that occurs at a chiral center during a chemical reaction, resulting in a change in the configuration of the molecule. This phenomenon is characteristic of SN2 reactions, where the nucleophile attacks from the side opposite to the leaving group. It leads to a product with the opposite stereochemistry.
