Identity reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005577

A chemical reaction where the products are chemically identical to the reactants, differing only in isotopic labeling or spatial arrangement. Such reactions have a reaction enthalpy of zero and are often studied to understand intrinsic barriers and solvent effects. An example is the degenerate rearrangement of a carbocation.
