Narcissistic reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007768
A reaction that converts a molecule into its mirror image, so that the product is the enantiomer of the reactant and coincides with the reactant's reflection without any rotation or translation. Because enantiomers have equal energy, such a reaction is a special case of degenerate rearrangement, and it occurs, for example, in fluxional molecules whose rearrangement interconverts the two enantiomeric forms.
