Automerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000994
A degenerate rearrangement where a molecule undergoes an intramolecular transformation that results in a product chemically identical to the starting material, but with atoms or groups having exchanged positions. The rearrangement is often detected by isotopic labeling experiments. An example is the Cope rearrangement of bullvalene.
