Degenerate orbitals

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002924

Atomic or molecular orbitals that possess the same energy level. In the absence of external fields, these orbitals are energetically equivalent, meaning an electron can occupy any of them with the same energy. For example, the three p-orbitals (px, py, pz) in an isolated atom are degenerate.
