Localized molecular orbitals
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006741
Molecular orbitals that are primarily concentrated in a specific region of a molecule, such as a bond between two atoms or a lone pair on a single atom. These orbitals are formed by linear combinations of atomic orbitals and are often used to describe chemical bonding in a more intuitive way than delocalized molecular orbitals. They are obtained through a unitary transformation of canonical molecular orbitals.
