Local molar polarizability

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006740

The complex molar polarizability of a medium, calculated from its complex dielectric function or refractive index with the Lorentz-Lorenz relation, which assumes that each molecule feels the Lorentz local field. Its imaginary part gives an absorption band free of the long-range dielectric effects that distort the shapes of very strong bands. Its SI unit is J⁻¹ C² m² mol⁻¹.
