Atom-atom polarizability

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000887

A measure of how the electron density at one atom in a molecule changes in response to a perturbation, such as an electric field or a change in nuclear charge, at another atom. This concept is derived from molecular orbital theory and is used to understand electronic interactions within a molecule. It is expressed in units of inverse energy.
